When the Buffalo Bulls open up the 2018 football season against Delaware State on Saturday, expect to see a lot of talented football players doing special things. At least for the first half. This game should be a blow out, and luckily for us the Bulls are loaded with stars eager to shine.

I don’t expect this to be much of a competitive game, so instead I will focus on the stars on the Buffalo side of the ball. 5 Bulls on the offensive side of the ball are on preseason award watchlists, and receiver Anthony Johnson is a pre-season second team All-American. With a healthy Tyree Jackson back at QB, look for both players to put up big numbers, at least in the first half. I don’t expect this one to be much of a game after that. Center James O’Hagan is on the Rimington watchlist, while Tyler Mabry is on the watch list for the nation’s best tight end. Running back Emmanuel Reed is on the Doak Walker list for the nation’s best running back. Reed had a solid sophomore campaign, gaining over 800 yards. Look for this fast back to be even better in 2018, as the Bulls have more continuity on offense. Against an FCS team like Delaware State, he just might break some big runs to put this game away early.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulls return possibly their best player in linebacker Khalil Hodge. The Bulls will do their best to keep everything in front of them, and their athletic advantage will wear out the Hornets. While I don’t expect a three and out every time, I do believe the Bulls will keep the Hornets out of the endzone most of the game.
All in all, things are looking good in Buffalo, and this season should be a big improvement over the 6-6 squad of a year ago. This game should indicate that both on the scoreboard and with the eye test.
