The Bowling Green Falcons lost their opening two games by a combined score of 103-38. Those numbers don’t tell the entire, story, however. The Falcons played two quality teams in the Oregon Ducks and Maryland Terrapins. The Falcons were in both in the first half, before letting the games get away from them. Up next for the Falcons are the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.
After defeating Moorehead State by a score of 49-23, the Colonels lost to Marshall, 32-16. That semi-close game also doesn’t tell the whole picture. EKU recovered 3 kicks and blocked a punt and extra point.
I’ll be perfectly blunt, I really have no idea what to expect in this football game. I think BGSU is actually a good football team that was terrible for a few years, so they need some confidence. I think this game will be the perfect opportunity.
I am actually fairly confident in the Falcons offense. I know Scott Miller is the real deal, and Jarrett Doege looks to be the signal caller the Falcons have been looking for. I am not too worried about the short comings of the running game the first two weeks because of the opponents.
Defensively the Falcons have looked really good at times. There have been some blown coverage and missed assignments, but that is to be expected under a new defensive coordinator. I expect the defense to be a little less complicated for this game, and the Falcons to keep the Colonels out of the endzone much of the game.
If the Falcons are going to be at all competitive in the MAC this season, I expect them to blow out EKU. After that Bowling Green hosts Miami before heading to Georgia Tech. Then they are at Georgia Tech and at Toledo. Sadly for the Falcon faithful, they could, in fact, be a much improved team and still sitting at 1-5 or 2-4 to start the season.
