2019 MAC Football Power Rankings: Week 7

There’s a new team taking the top spot this week!

NCAA Football: Toledo at Colorado State Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

So, let’s cut to the chase and reveal the rankings.

12. Akron Zips (Last week: 12)

  • Average vote: 12
  • Unanimous #12

Akron was destroyed by Kent State, 26-3, last week which solidified their place at the bottom this week. This Saturday they’ll take on fellow 0-2 MAC team, Buffalo in hopes of getting their first conference win.

11. Bowling Green Falcons (LW: 11)

  • Average vote: 10.71
  • Highest vote: 10 (two)
  • Lowest vote: 11 (six)

Despite their win over Toledo last weekend, Bowling Green didn’t move from their spot in 11th place. This weekend they’ll take on CMU. A win should move them up a couple spots to say the least.

10. Miami RedHawks (LW: 7)

  • Average vote: 9
  • Highest vote: 5 (one)
  • Lowest vote: 11 (two)

Miami has another tough test this week against NIU. But, last weekend, they had a solid start in their game against WMU before the Broncos managed to outscore the RedHawks 38-10 in the final 45 minutes of the game.

9. Buffalo Bulls (LW: 6)

  • Average vote: 7.57
  • Highest vote: 6 (three)
  • Lowest vote: 10 (two)

Despite having a bye-week, Buffalo fell three spots to ninth this week. The Bulls will take on Akron this Saturday.

8. Eastern Michigan Eagles (LW: 5)

  • Average vote: 7.43
  • Highest vote: 6 (three)
  • Lowest vote: 9 (one)

EMU fell three spots after their loss to to Ball State. The Eagles’ schedule doesn’t get any easier as they play WMU this week and Toledo next weekend.

T6. Kent State Golden Flashes (LW: 10)

  • Average vote: 6.86
  • Highest vote: 4 (two)
  • Lowest vote: 10 (two)

After a dominating win over the Zips, KSU jumped to seventh. But this weekend they play Ohio, so we’ll see if they can keep their upward momentum going.

T6. Northern Illinois Huskies (LW: 9)

  • Average vote: 6.86
  • Highest vote: 3 (one)
  • Lowest vote: 9 (four)

NIU continues their roller coaster run in the power rankings. After a win at Ohio last weekend, the Huskies hopped up to 6th this week. They face Miami this weekend where they’ll look to continue their upward momentum.

5. Ohio Bobcats (LW: 3)

  • Average vote: 5.26
  • Highest vote: 3 (two)
  • Lowest vote: 8 (one)

The Bobcats stayed above the Huskies this week despite their loss. Their game against Kent State this weekend will determine if they’re still the best of the MAC East or will fall even lower.

4. Ball State Cardinals (LW: 8)

  • Average vote: 5.14
  • Highest vote: 3 (one)
  • Lowest vote: 7 (two)

Ball State upended EMU to remain one of just two undefeated teams in MAC play...and yet they still rank fourth this week. The Cardinals have a tough test in Toledo this weekend, which will prove whether or not they’re for real.

3. Central Michigan Chippewas (LW: 4)

  • Average vote: 3.29
  • Highest vote: 2 (two)
  • Lowest vote: 5 (one)

The Chips were fired up in the win against New Mexico State last weekend but this Saturday they’ll return to conference play when they take on Bowling Green.

2. Toledo Rockets (LW: 1)

  • Average vote: 1.71
  • Highest vote: 1 (five)
  • Lowest vote: 3 (two)

After a few unanimous weeks at #1, the Rockets slipped from the number one spot this week after the Falcons shut them down in the Battle of I-75. Toledo takes on Ball State where they’ll look to right the ship.

1. Western Michigan Broncos (LW: 2)

  • Average vote: 1.57
  • Highest vote: 1 (three)
  • Lowest vote: 2 (five)

The Broncos narrowly claimed the top spot this week, after their win over Miami (and Toledo’s loss). WMU will look to keep their first place spot this weekend when they take on a tough EMU team.
