2019 MAC Men’s Basketball Tournament Recap: Bowling Green offensive outburst takes down Ball State

Wiggins and Frye lead Falcons past Cardinals in tight contest.

The Bowling Green Falcons had one of its best offensive performances of the year while handily defeating the #11 seed Ball State Cardinals, 99-86 in MAC Men’s quarterfinal action on Thursday evening.

Damajeo Wiggins had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Falcons. Junior guard Dylan Frye had 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field. Caleb Fields (14), Justin Turner (10) and Daeqwon Plowden (10) also scored in double figures for BG.

Senior Tayler Persons led the Cardinals with 25 points. Zach Gunn and Trey Moses added 12 each for Ball State. The Cardinals committed 15 turnovers in the game to only 11 for the Falcons.

The Falcons had early foul trouble in the first half as leading scorer and first team All-MAC guard Turner picked up two fouls in the game’s first six minutes. The Falcons had to go it without Turner for the rest of the half. Frye (16) and Wiggins (13) picked up the scoring slack in the first half, as Bowling Green held a 54-51 lead at the intermission.

Bowling Green moves to 21-11 on the season and advance to Friday night’s second semifinal against #7 seed Northern Illinois, which will tip of at approximately 9:00 p.m. EST and air nationally on the FOX Colege Sports Channel and on the FOX Sports GO mobile app. Ball State, with the loss, finished the season 16-17 and will likely not participate in postseason festivities.
