Bowling Green 3, Dayton 6 (7 innings)
The Falcons (13-27, 6-12 MAC) were able to take an early lead in the game, but the Flyers got five tuns in the span of two innings in order to win the rain-shortened game. After Dayton got on the board with one run in the first inning, BG responded with a Jake Wilson two-run home run in the third inning and a Riley Minorik RBI-single in the fifth inning to take the 3-1 lead. However, the offense sputtered and UD took advantage as it tied the game up in the fifth with a stealing of home and three unearned runs in the following inning.
Minorik went 3-4 in the contest with a run scored while Wilson went 1-3 with a walk. Dylan Dohanos, R.J. Williams, and Nick Neibauer also put down hits during the game. The pitching staff for BG didn’t play all that poorly as they only allowed three earned runs and had a strikeout-walk ratio of 9:3, but they got themselves in some trouble with 10 hits allowed. The Falcons host a good Central Michigan team this weekend, so we’ll see if they are able to play up to their competition and do some positive things this weekend.
Eastern Michigan 4, Youngstown State 10
The Eagles (11-33-1, 6-12 MAC) were able to string together some runs late, but they wouldn’t be enough as the Penguins outhit them 14-6 in the contest. YSU took a 5-0 lead after four innings of play, but EMU finally answered back in the sixth inning with a solo home run from Taylor Hopkins. A four-run run seventh inning for the Pens extended their lead even further, but the Eagles continued to battle as they added a Jared Kauffman RBI-single and a Hopkins score off of an error in the following inning while Nick Jones contributed a RBI-double in the ninth inning.
Zachary Owings also put down some hits on the day as he went 2-5 with a run scored while Kauffman picked up a stolen base and Hopkins turned a double play on defense. The pitching staff was unable to get key outs as the only registered one strikeout during the contest. EMU now has a big road series against Western Michigan in order to build some momentum heading into the end of the regular season.
