Eastern Michigan pulled off the the unthinkable for the third time in a row. After getting their first win against a Big Ten team against Rutgers two years ago. Then proving it wasn’t a fluke when they beat Purdue last year. They continue against the Big Ten with a 34-31 victory over the Fighting Illini.

When the Illini tied it with less than two minutes to go, I thought Coach Creighton was going to do the safe thing and take a tie game into overtime.

He didn’t have that in mind and he decided to trust the hands of Mike Glass. The Eagles took the ball with one minute 44 seconds left in the game.

It turned out to be the right decision.

Eastern Michigan started the final drive with a 9 yard pass to Bryson Cannon. Then Mike Glass connected with Dylan Drummond for 3 yards and the important first down. The next play resulted in a completed pass to Arthur Jackson to put the ball on the Illinois side of the field. Mike Glass found Dylan Drummond to add another 23 yards to his drive and that put the ball on the 17 yard line. Then Breck Turner made a 13 yard run to put the ball on the four yard line. A series of timeouts put the game on Chad Ryland’s foot. And his foot was good enough for the game winning field goal.

Eastern Michigan heads home to play Central Connecticut State next weekend. The game is at 3:00 P.M. and will be shown on ESPN3.
