It’s Friday again, and we’re super excited to bring you this weeks’ version of the Bandwagon! We hope everyone has had a wonderful week - how about we head into the weekend on a high note?
This week, the boys open up by discussing a couple of news stories that broke this week.
First, Zach and Sam talk about the newly announced and long awaited transfer rule, which eliminates for student athletes the requirement of sitting out a year when they transfer. Also included in this new rule is the prohibition of schools’ “blocking” transfer destinations for student-athletes, another well-received amendment to the rule. To close out the news segment, our hosts talk about the MAC’s recent Operational Plan for the fall sports that will be taking place in the spring (Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s soccer, and Field Hockey), as well as the announcement that the MAC will be hosting a few NCAA championships in Cleveland in the coming years.
In the B block, the boys welcome fellow Hustle Belt contributor and Eastern Michigan alum Zach Vannieuwenhze, who helps preview the upcoming season for the Eagles. How will EMU replace Mike Glass? Can the defense improve at all? What’s the feeling of the fanbase right now? Zach is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things Eastern, so you won’t want to miss this.
Next up, James steps in to interview another Hustle Belt contributor, Steve Helwick, about the upcoming Western Michigan season. They discuss the Broncos’ disappointing bowl loss to end 2019, the current state of the program, and whether or not Western can get back to the top of the MAC West this year.
To close out this weeks’ show, the boys are joined by Lacey James. A three year starter for the NIU basketball program, Lacey helped lead the Huskies to Cleveland for the MAC tournament the past two seasons. Zach and Sam ask him about his experience going through the transfer process, his best memories at NIU, and what’s next for him in his career.
