The NIU Huskies start their season in the friendly confines of Huskie Stadium in a season full of roster changes, and are set to play host to the Buffalo Bulls, a roster full of returnees who are winners of six of their last seven games.

The Huskies look to continue the rebuild under second year head coach Thomas Hammock, a former NIU RB, and will come into this matchup as one of the youngest teams in the conference. It’s a unique place the NIU fanbase finds themselves in, after being spoiled over the last decade by some truly remarkable teams.

The Bulls, meanwhile, are one of the most experienced teams in the MAC, and will trot out MAC Offensive Player of the Year Jaret Patterson on offense, a hell of an assignment for any opposing defense. The Bulls look to avenge a 2019 season which saw them collapse in the game which should have clinched their division, and a road game in November at NIU will serve as a good test to their mental fortitiude.

It’ll be a lovely fall day in DeKalb at the 7 p.m. kickoff, with temps at 59 degrees, with a brisk, but managable 10 MPH win from the northeast, per Weather.com. Buffalo comes in as an eight-point favorite, with an over/under of 52, per OddsShark.
