Miami RedHawks (1-3)
The RedHawks were the only MAC team in action over the weekend as they headed to East Lansing to take on the Spartans of Michigan State for back-to-back matchups on Friday and Saturday night. The Spartans are known for winning low scoring, defensive games and this weekend was no different.
On Saturday night the Spartans struck first on the powerplay just over 8 minutes into the game. The RedHawks tied it up midway through the second period on a goal from Joe Cassetti. The tie held at 1-1 until late in the third when the Spartans added a pair of goals to take a 3-1 victory.
Sunday saw the RedHawks jump out to the lead 15 minutes into the first period on a goal from Derek Daschke. They held their lead until the third period, where once again the Spartans netted a pair of goals to take the lead. Michigan State came out victorious and completed the weekend sweep of Miami.
Next up for the RedHawks is a home-and-home series with Bowling Green on October 22nd and 23rd.
Western Michigan Broncos (2-0) Ranked #17
The Broncos had the weekend off, but that didn’t stop them from rising up the rankings. After debuting at #19 following the opening week, they rose two spots up to #17 this week thanks to losses from teams ranked ahead of them.
Next up for the Broncos is a home-and-home series against the #1 ranked Michigan Wolverines. They’ll face off in Ann Arbor on the 22nd before heading back to Kalamazoo for a much anticipated home game on the 23rd.
Bowling Green Falcons (1-0-1)
Bowling Green stayed at home this weekend for their Orange and Brown Scrimmage. The Brown team game away victorious in this free to the public intrasquad scrimmage.
Next up for the Falcons is the aforementioned home-and-home series with the Miami RedHawks.
