Bowling Green’s season came to end Monday afternoon as the Stetson Hatters overcame a 15-point second half deficit en route to a 53-52 win over the Falcons.
The Falcons, who played without star Justin Turner (their leading scorer), started the game in a tight battle with Stetson. For most of the first half the teams were deadlocked and seesawing back-and-forth before BGSU went on an 11-2 run late in the first half and entered halftime with 29-21 lead.
In the second half BGSU continued their surge and increased their lead to as many as 15 points, leading 43-28 with 11:49 remaining in the game. But that’s when Stetson began to take over.
The Hatters, led by Rob Perry, chipped away at the lead until Perry was able put Stetson ahead for good with a three-point dagger with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Falcons were able to get away three field goal attempts in the final moments but were unable to connect on any of them.
Stetson out-rebounded Bowling Green by a large margin, 48-39, and shot 35.6% from the field to BG’s 31.4%.
Perry lead all scorers with 16 points, while fellow Hatter, Mahamadou Diawara, was right behind him with 15. Trey Diggs was the only Falcon to hit double-digits, as he scored 13.
