Thanks for stopping by once again this week, folks. It’s officially March folks! If you’re into hoops, this is the best time of the year to be a fan.
This week’s episode is all about the remaining basketball action! We preview the expected brackets for the upcoming action, and try to glean which teams could represent the MAC in the Big Dance!
There are tight races in both men’s and women’s basketball right now in the MAC, and a lot can change over the last week of the season. We’re excited to break it all down for you. Before starting the hoops talk proper, the boys open this weeks’ show with a quick recap of some MAC news from the week that was. In basketball, the conference announced their tournament and automatic qualifier policy. This may be put to the test on the men’s side of things, as Ohio is currently dealing with some COVID issues.
Elsewhere in the news, Akron AD Larry Williams announced that he will not be seeking a new contract with the Zips when his current deal expires in June. This gives the Zips about three months to begin a search for his replacement. Zach and Sam give their opinions on his tenure in Northeast Ohio, as well as how this decision will effect the Zips athletic department moving forward.
Moving onto the hardwood, the boys break down the week that was on the court, while also looking at the current standings as the regular season winds down. Seven of eights spots have been clinched on the men’s side, however there are still some seeds up for grabs. On the women’s side, there is a ton of parity in spots 2-9, and a lot can change this week. Northern Illinois’ and Kent State continued their recent slides, while Ball State picked up a few nice wins. On the men’s side of things, Buffalo seems to be rounding into form at the right time, while Akron and Bowling Green have some questions to answer as we approach the end of the season.
If there’s one thing we can be certain about in Cleveland, it’s that much like a normal conference tournament in a normal year, the only thing which will be predictable is the unpredictability.
As a programming note, we’ll be releasing next weeks’ episode on Wednesday and giving you a full preview of the conference tournaments. Keep an eye out so that you don’t miss anything - we have a fun episode planned and are excited to share it with you all!
