How are we feeling folks? Still recovering from the weekend? Because, same.
This weekend’s slate was overwhelming, with too many good games to choose from. We’re excited to break everything down from a MAC perspective, and also give a little preview of what week two holds for the conference.
To open up the show, Zach and Steve look back at the opening week of games. Which teams impressed you the most? Obviously, Northern Illinois topped our list, with an incredible 22-21 victory over Georgia Tech in Atlanta. This was a signature victory for coach Thomas Hammock and the Huskies program in general, who are coming off of an 0-6 campaign last season. Elsewhere, Central Michigan kept it close with Missouri, Kent State did some good things against Texas A&M, and Buffalo looked dominant against an overmatched Wagner squad.
On the other side of the spectrum, there were some disappointing performances. Despite getting a victory, Ball State did not look good in their 31-21 win over FCS Western Illinois. It was also tough to take many positives away from Miami’s blowout loss to Cincinnati and Ohio’s disappointing performance versus Syracuse. Will these squads be able to right the ship? Only time will tell.
Looking ahead to week two, the boys take a look at the best match up’s on the week two slate. Will Ball State be able to bounce back with a better performance at Penn State? Buffalo takes a serious step up in competition, traveling to Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers. How will Kevin Marks and company fare? NIU all of a sudden has expectations to deal with, and return to DeKalb for their home opener against the Wyoming Cowboys.
While the week two slate overall may not hold up to what we just experienced in week one, there are still plenty of intriguing match up’s this week in the MAC. We can’t thank you all enough for stopping by and listening this week, and we look forward to having a great football season with all of you. Have a great weekend folks, and we’ll see you back here next week!
