Akron Picks Up Ohio State Transfer Jamal Marcus

The Zips bolstered their defense when Jamal Marcus announced he is transferring to the University of Akron.

Former Ohio State defensive end Jamal Marcus announced on his Instagram that he is transferring to the University of Akron.  He did so with a stylish photoshop of himself in an Akron jersey at Infocision Stadium.  He also had this to say on the Instagram.

"Everything in life whether good or bad I feel are life lessons that God places on us to help us become better and wiser men and women. This fall, I will be attending and playing football for The University of Akron. Blessed and thankful for the opportunity. Can't wait to give my all to this team and help get Akron football back on top."

While Jamal mentions playing football this fall for the Zips, it is presumed that he will have to sit out for the football season and fully join the Zips' football team in 2015.  It was reported in late May that Marcus would be leaving the team, but it was unclear if he left on his own volition or if he was dismissed.  Marcus played mostly on special teams during his tenure at Ohio State, but did make his first start in the Orange Bowl versus Clemson and was expected to get more playing time in 2014.

Jamal Marcus is a talented player that can help the Chuck Amato-led defense in 2015 and beyond.  He will have the year off to focus on his academics and come in fully prepared for the 2015 spring practices.  We wish him luck in that regard and hope to see him on the field come next season's #MACtion.
