Hustler of the week: Darren Mattocks, Vancouver Whitecaps

The headband assassin strikes again! Darren Mattocks wins it this week for his dribbling ability and the way he made Maurice Edu look like a youth player. *BC Place goes insane as Mattocks -- who's in the process of bringing braids back -- ties his 2013 goal haul.*

Short of Chris Wondolowski's control against Colorado, Major League Soccer was at a loss for individual goals this week.

But Wondo's goal was crossed to him before he took two great touches before slotting the ball in from a tight angle, but even the U.S. men's national team forward couldn't match what Darren Mattocks did in the 81st minute.

Pedro Morales collected the ball in Vancouver's half before playing a ball into space on the right side of the pitch, about 30 yards out. That's when the headband assassin came to life.

Mattocks, with Maurice Edu on his back, took the ball, stood up Edu, and then did some Cristiano Ronaldo-esque stepovers before breaking right and firing a shot past Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre and into the back of the net.

The goal marked the first time all season that the Whitecaps have scored three goals in a game.

While this goal was pretty meaningless, it came when Vancouver already had a 2-0 lead and a man advantage after Richie Marquez was sent off with a straight red, it will mean the world for Mattocks.

Mattocks has made nine appearances this season, with only five starts, but he is quickly proving to manager Carl Robinson why he has the potential to be one of the Whitecaps' main strikers.

His poaching instincts and smart runs, on-and-off the ball, have seen him score three goals throughout the season. This already matches his goal haul from 2013 and is half of what he scored last season.

Seeing that, at this point in the season, he's only played a fourth of the minutes that he played in 2014, Mattocks looks to be in a rich vein of form and Vancouver is seeing the benefits of it.

Cornrows and braids may be out of style but nobody seems to have gotten that message to the headband assassin up in Vancouver. Keep doing you, Darren.
