Ball State announced the hiring of former graduate assistant Patrick Dougherty as their new tight ends coach.
Dougherty was an offensive graduate assistant for the Cardinals during the 2012 season. He spent 2013 as a defensive quality control coach at Northwestern University under head coach Pat Fitzgerald.
A graduate of Ohio Dominican University in 2008, Dougherty played linebacker for four years for the Panthers. After graduation he joined the staff at Defiance University as the defensive line coach and assistant strength and conditioning coordinator. He spent two seasons with the Yellow Jackets, then served as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at Lindsey Wilson College in 2011.
He takes the place of Joey Lynch, who was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach after the departure of former offensive coordinator Rich Skrosky to Elon.
