ESPN BracketBusters Line-Up Set

+

While I'm still waiting for my computer to get out of the repair shop, I'll just give you guys this quick hit while I'm at work. The MAC got 3 games on tv, all of which feature East teams (Ohio, Akron, and Buffalo). The successful dullfest that is EMU basketball did not get an invite, and will travel to Green Bay. The rest of the non-televised games can be found here.

Posting has been light to non-existent. I'm recovering from food poisoning and could sure use a pack of five men to carry me from place to place. Hopefully we'll return to full strength by tomorrow night.

Curt Miller recovering from mild stroke, will not coach next game

+

Think good thoughts. Always good thoughts. BGSU women's basketball coach Curt Miller suffered a mild stroke during their game Sunday. He seemed to have coached last night without episode but he will be taking a bit of a break as the team travels for a big game at CMU. The 7-0 start in MAC play is an afterthought, as it usually happens during a medical situation. According to the BGSU release, longtime assistant Jennifer Roos will coach in his place.

This week's MAC Sporcle: Vern Smith winners

1

The last couple were admittedly difficult quizzes, and maybe this one'll be tough to crack 50 percent as well, but at least there's a fighting chance. See how many you can name who won the Vern Smith Leadership Award, essentially the MAC Football Player of the Year.

It's an All-Wagon Wheel Super Bowl

1

Not as many players will play in this year's Super Bowl than last year. A record 15 MAC alum suited up for Super Bowl XLV, but Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn (Akron) and Patriots wide receiver/punt returner Julian Edelman (Kent State) will hit the Wagon Wheel rivalry on a tangent. The trophy they'll receive, however, is a bit less elliptical.

New MAC Sporcle: all-time head football coaches

7

Just killin' time until the next football season. I highly doubt anybody's going to crack the entire list, given that 123 people have coached at least one game as a permanent head coach in MAC history. Last names only are acceptable; interim coaches are bonus answers. Do your best. These won't be graded.

Akron's Mattocks Selected Second Overall in MLS SuperDraft

+

The Vancouver Whitecaps selected Akron Sophomore striker Darren Mattocks with the second overall pick of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, held today in Kansas City. He joins fellow Zip Michael Nanchoff in Vancouver, who was the eighth pick of the 2011 SuperDraft. Mattocks scored 21 goals this season, was MAC Player of the Year and also a Hermann Trophy semi-finalist. The addition of Mattocks to the professional ranks makes a total of 14 former Zips who now play in the MLS. No other MAC student-athletes were drafted this year.
