Mitch Stanitzek from Grand Rapids West Catholic is becoming a Chippewa according to 247sports. The 6-4, 220 pound 2-star tight end had previously committed to EMU. However, according to a report by Allen Trieu of Scout.com, Stanitzek's first choice was CMU due to head coach Dan Enos' offensive philosophy which emphasizes tight ends.
Stanitzek has family who are CMU alumni and that may have also affected his decision to switch from EMU to CMU. At West Catholic, Stanitzek earned All-State, All- Area and Grand Rapids Dream Team honors for the 2013 season.
Stanitzek credits CMU line backers coach Kyle Nystrom with never giving up on him and staying in close touch with him as reported by Tiueu. Being strongly welcomed at CMU may have also played a part in Stanitzek's decision to choose CMU.
Stanitzek's size and versatility may also make him a candidate at linebacker or defensive end as the needs for those positions may arise. Film of Stanitzek shows that he may very well be a good defensive prospect.
