Baseball Weekend Previews: Bowling Green & Miami finally have their tie-breaking series

Ball State is finally in first place after sweeping Central Michigan last weekend. Can they keep it up against Akron?

USA TODAY Sports

Toledo at Central Michigan

Central Michigan is coming off of a sweep against Ball State, and will look to take out that frustration on Toledo. Meanwhile the Rockets are coming off of a series loss in which errors gave away the final game. The Rockets are barely hanging on to the #3 seed in the MAC West and a series win would close the gap within CMU.

Eastern Michigan at Western Michigan

Western Michigan is finally playing home games. It only took 2/3 of the season for us to say that. They welcome in the worst pitching staff in the MAC. Western Michigan needs this series. Why would a 6-12 in MAC play team need a series win you ask? The answer is simple: if Toledo drops 2 or all 3 games to Central Michigan and WMU takes 2 of 3 or sweeps we have a tie for third place with a head to head matchup looming the following weekend. Can we build it up any better?

Ball State at Akron

Ball State is in sole possession of first place, and that will not change this weekend. The Zips can be pesky at times, but I don't see any way possible the Cardinals drop this series. The Cardinals are without a doubt the best team in the MAC and the Zips are, well just mediocre at best. Akron will hang its hope on the bats to touch up a good starting rotation this weekend.

Northern Illinois at Kent State

The Huskies sit at 8-10 and have to be excited about how this season has turned around once conference play began. This was a team that only had 2 wins prior. They travel to play against the 1st place Golden Flashes. Kent State has been surprisingly good this season and the Huskies will need Anderson, and Klonowski to continue pitching the way they have the past few weeks to try and steal one on the road.

Buffalo at Ohio

The second place Bulls will travel to Ohio to play a depleted and beaten down Bobcats team. Unfortunately for Ohio it has yet to click this season, and home field advantage hasn't even been something to write home about. Maybe the travel will effect the Bulls, but if not I anticipate this to be a David vs Goliath matchup with David having little to no chance at all.

Bowling Green at Miami

This matchup is the most intriguing one on paper this week. Both teams come in with a 10-8 record, and both teams are coming off of impressive series wins last weekend. The winner of this series will be in 3rd place for sure, and have a shot at second depending on what the Bulls do in Ohio (but come on let's be real. There is no way they lose to the Bobcats.)
