The Zips may be 2-2 but they are 1-0 in a post-compliance-nightmare world. The two forwards who returned to action, Demetrius Treadwell and Nick Harney, accounted for only 14 points and 10 rebounds, so it doesn't look like they'd have made a difference in this runaway win. Plus, Harney fouled out, so he wasn't compliant with keeping his hands to himself.
Akron pulled away in the second half after a narrow three-point halftime lead
Chauncey Gilliam was the real story here: 22 points on just nine shots (5-for-6 on threes) and Alex Abreu bounced back with 12 points and nine assists to one turnover. Zeke Marshall swatted away five shots to go with six points and eight rebounds.
Akron will play the winner of tonight's Penn State-Providence tilt in the fifth place game of this Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament on Sunday afternoon.
