"We Don't Lose In-State Games!"

Shayne Whittington was on fire, and has full confidence in this new Bronco team as they downed the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 76-72 Saturday to move to 6-1 on the season. After the game, he said, "We don't lose in-state games, they are rivalries for a reason"

After a chippy first half, the Broncos led 40-36. There were 19 fouls between the two teams, and emotions were starting to get out of check. Nevertheless, it was a good half of basketball. Darius Paul and Whittington helped power WMU down low with 8 points each. Whittington also had 3 big blocks. Brandon Pokley and Jared Klein also had 7 and 6 points respectively. Oakland was led by Ryan Bass who had 10 points. The four other Grizzly starters had 6 points each.

In a back and forth 2nd half, WMU was forced into 11 turnovers, but shot well enough to stay in the tight game. Another 28 fouls were called, costing Whittington his game. However, he finished with a stat-stuffing 14 pts, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Paul finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds. The Broncos shot 44% in the 2nd half, and made some key free throws down the stretch.
