An interesting thing about UAPB, other than their acronym being almost as long as Akron, is that they traditionally spend the entire nonconference playing on the road or at neutral sites. Their last home non-conference games was 2007, beating Louisiana Tech. Their job is to travel to sites, make some money and maybe get some experience. That has to be it, because other than a brief 6-5 lead, the Zips controlled the rest of the game.
By virtue of the blowout, everybody got some playing time and no one person had a huge game and nobody played more than 23 minutes. Most efficient was Zeke Marshall, who had 13 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Brian Walsh shot 4-for-9 from three to finish with 14 points. Freshman Reggie McAdams got in the action with 11 points. They did have 25 turnovers, but about 10 of them happened by the time they had built a 30-point lead.
But at least their losing streak is over. They improve to 5-4 and a slightly tougher challenge awaits Akron on Sunday when they host Cleveland State.
