Well folks, it's finally here. MAC Basketball officially starts tonight, with Central Michigan kicking things off.
Opponent Breakdown: Lake Superior State was 16-13 overall and 11-11 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers feature Derek Billing, a senior guard and the team's leading scorer from last season. Billing was second team all-conference last year and scored twenty or more points in seven games. There isn't a lot of height on this Laker roster, as only two players stand taller than 6'6". Head coach Steve Hettinga is in his seventh season coaching the Lakers and has a 90-80 won-loss record.
Welcome Back: Chippewa fans may notice a familiar face on the Lakers: Jorddan Myrick. Myrick didn't really do anything during his one year at Central Michigan appearing sporadically in fifteen games. He played pretty well for the Lakers last year putting up eight points per game in the first nine games of the season until eligibility issues sidelined him for the rest of the year.
Breakdown: I mean, it's an exhibition so Central Michigan should win fairly easily. Chris Fowler should be able to do whatever he wants to and will likely look to set up his teammates more than score points himself. The Chips have a huge advantage down low, so expect to see a lot of John Simons, Zach Saylor and Milos Cabarkapa. Exhibitions are also opportunities for the freshmen to get a good deal of playing time and gives the coach an idea of who will play this year and who will redshirt. Cabarkapa is someone to keep an eye on, so it'll be interesting to see how he does in his first college game.
