Western Michigan Releases Non-Conference Schedule

A trip to Hawaii highlights the Broncos non-conference slate

Gregory Shamus

Western Michigan released the Men's Basketball Non-Conference schedule today, featuring three games in Hawaii and match-ups with power conference schools Northwestern and Missouri. Here's the complete schedule:

November 2 Kalamazoo College (exh.)
November 4 Aquinas College (exh.)
November 8 New Mexico State*
November 9 Hawaii*
November 10 Tennessee State*
November 17 Alabama A&M
November 20 North Dakota State
November 26 Oakland
November 29 Cornell
December 7 @ Northwestern
December 15 @ Missouri
December 18 @ Drake
January 2 Siena Heights

*Hawaii Tournament

After an impressive 22-13 season last year, the Broncos are looking to build on the experience gained by the freshmen and sophomores that received a good deal of playing time. The schedule sets up nicely for them, starting with a trip out to Hawaii to begin the season (can't argue with that). Plus, they'll play some a quality team in New Mexico State, who features 7'5" big man Sim Bhullar and also his brother, 7'3" Tanveer Bhullar, who'll be a freshman this season. I already can't wait to see Shayne Whittington go against those two.

Trips to Northwestern and Missouri will be good experiences for this Bronco team, and will help prepare them for the tough MAC schedule. Yes, there are a few duds like Alabama A&M and Siena Heights, but overall this is a strong schedule. It has an average KenPom rating of 163.6, which isn't too shabby.
