College Basketball Rankings: Toledo Still No. 4, Ohio Rising In Mid-Major Top 25 Poll

The MAC still has a strong presence in the Mid-Major Top 25, but sees a pair of teams slip in the poll after a crazy week.

Kirk Irwin

After another wacky week of MAC Basketball that has seen a log jam form at the top of the conference standings, the conference has taken a few hits in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

After a blow-out loss to Toledo, the Akron Zips have slid back down the poll two spots and sits at No. 17 this week; and Kent State fell two spots as well to No. 21 after needing overtime to beat NIU and losing by 11 to Buffalo.

But, not all was bad for the MAC in this week's Mid-Major Coaches Poll. For the third-straight week the Toledo Rockets are holding down the No. 4 spot, behind Wichita State, Harvard and Gonzaga. The Rockets bounced back from a surprising conference-opening loss at Western Michigan two weeks ago with a buzzer-beating win against Buffalo, and a statement win on the road over defending MAC champions, Akron.

Ohio also saw the benefits of a strong week jumping up three spots to No. 16 after blow out wins over Ball State and Northern Illinois. And making moves this week are Eastern Michigan and Buffalo, which find themselves sitting just outside of the Top 25 after strong weeks in conference play as well. Western Michigan did not receive any votes this week.

The conference still has four ranked teams this week, which remains the most of any conference.

Toledo and Kent State face each other Saturday, as do Ohio and Eastern Michigan.
