It appears not everyone was impressed with Toledo's 10-point loss at No. 16 Kansas this past week. The Rockets may have stood their ground in the Mid-Major Madness Power 15, but in CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Coaches Poll they took a hit.
In the latest standings, Toledo checks in at No. 4 in the poll, down two spots from the previous week. Leapfrogging Toledo in the poll are Harvard and Gonzaga, a pair of perennial mid-major powers who have both played tougher non-conference slates than Toledo.
The Rockets open conference play vs. Western Michigan tonight at 7 p.m., and take on Central Michigan on Saturday at 6 p.m., a pair of games they should win. Toledo isn't all that far behind Harvard and Gonzaga in points, so a strong week by the Rockets and a slip up by either could have Toledo back in the No. 2 spot by next week.
Elsewhere in the poll the Ohio Bobcats continue to sneak their way up the rankings after downing Longwood and UNC-Asheville to wrap up their non-conference slate. The 'Cats checked in at No. 13 this week, up four spots from the previous week. Kent State slipped two spots to no. 17 following losses to Cleveland State and at Princeton this past week. The two teams face off tonight at 7 p.m. on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
Akron is the fourth and final team to work its way into the poll this week, checking in at No. 23 after not being ranked a week ago. After starting last week off with a road loss to South Carolina, the Zips downed Coppin State and Marshall at home to improve to 8-5 on the season. Akron opens conference play at Ball State tonight at 7 p.m., then heads down to Athens, Ohio to take on the Bobcats Sunday at 6 p.m.
Eastern Michigan (6), Buffalo (5) and Western Michigan (1) all received votes in this week's poll.
