Akron Zips vs. Rochester College Basketball Exhibition: Zips Win 55-42

Akron didn't look great, but they were playing Rochester so that's okay.

The Akron Zips defeated the Rochester Warriors by a 55-42 final on Monday night. This is the only exhibition on the schedule this year.

Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell led all scorers with 10 points in the Akron victory. He also added 14 total rebounds in 30 minutes of playing time. His free throw woes continued as he shot a dismal 2-10 from the charity stripe. Freshman point guard Noah Robotham from Las Vegas, Nevada seemed to fit right in with the team. He added 9 points, all in the first half, and 2 assists. Robotham played a game-high 31 minutes. Junior forward Jake Kretzer went 2 of 6 from the three point line for 6 points in 30 minutes. Red-shirt Freshman B.J. Gladden scored 3 points and grabbed 2 rebounds in 14 minutes. Junior forward Reggie McAdams scored 8 points in 21 minutes while going 2 of 5 from the three point line.

Extra takeaways:

  • Keith Dambrot was not coaching tonight for the Zips. He was with a family member who was being hospitalized. There was no clear head coach on the bench, but all of the assistant coaches came together and did a good job.
  • The Zips ran a 2-3 zone defense for two defensive possessions and didn't give up any points while running it.
  • Akron pressed during most of the first half, but it did not yield any outstanding results.
Something that surprised me was seeing two point guards on the floor at the same time.
  • Nyles Evans and Noah Robotham were both in the game at multiple times and it worked out fine. There were no visible conflicts or breaks in the flow of the game.

The Akron Zips tip-off their regular season this Friday, November 14 at 8 pm against the UMBC Retrievers out of the American-East.
