Basketball season already? Sweet.
We've got games coming at you this week with games starting on Friday. That's in two days. While we fight with each other about how much optimism and promise one's team has versus another team, we created our own little Justice League of MAC men's basketball power ranking voters. Kind of exactly like the one we do for football. You now how it goes. Here's how our preseason polls shook up:
Rank | Team |
1 | Toledo |
2 | Akron |
3 | Western Michigan |
4 | Ohio |
5 | Eastern Michigan |
6 | Buffalo |
7 | Kent State |
8 | Northern Illinois |
9 | Bowling Green |
10 | Central Michigan |
11 | Miami |
12 | Ball State |
Great. I form an alliance and the votes tallied up to put Central Michigan all the way down at 10, below Kent State and Northern Illinois. Now Central fans are going to form conspiracy theories against me. This might be my favorite part about writing power rankings.
Figuring out the top five was really difficult. The top three (well, four, really) had a lot of diversity in the ballots for selecting the top spots. Even though the Broncos are returning four of their returning starters after winning the MAC Tournament Championship, the Rockets just might be that much better.
Honestly, outside of this, we're all just going to have to wait until the season gets going. There's a lot of promise for these teams, but I'm not going to sit here and act like I know how everything will and shake up in these rankings until we see how teams have changed since last season, either.
