After a victory over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday, the Broncos will host the Drake Bulldogs this Saturday at University Arena. Drake is sitting at 0-2 in this young season after losses to DePaul (80-62) and another MAC opponent, Bowling Green (77-58).

Drake's leading scorer right now is Chris Caird, a 6-foot-6, 232 pound senior guard from Daventry, England. Caird is averaging 13.5 points in his first two games, including a 19 point performance against DePaul. Five-foot-ten, 150 pound starting guard Jordan Daniels also performed well for Drake against DePaul, shooting 7 of 13 from the field for 17 points.

The Bulldogs have a three-guard starting lineup. It will be interesting to see if WMU head coach Steve Hawkins sticks with the two-guard lineup we've seen thus far this year. If that is the case, we might see forward Kellen McCormick get a start - after a fantastic 14 point effort against Oakland - alongside forwards Connar Tava and Tucker Haymond. Freshman Drake LaMont, who started at center for the Broncos against Oakland, did not perform poorly in that game but was definitely overshadowed by McCormick's night.

Or if Hawkins decides to match the small Bulldog starters, we could see a lot of freshman guard Thomas Wilder, who has proven to be very compatible with starting senior guards Austin Richie and David Brown.

Speaking of Richie and Brown, the two did not have incredibly impressive performances against Oakland, scoring 10 and 6 points, respectively. But what was great about that game was that it was okay that these two didn't go crazy in the stats sheet. Other Broncos filled the offensive gap and pulled the victory.

That depth of talent is what will bring the Broncos a victory against Drake. The Bulldogs won't be able to match Western player for player and WMU will be able to get the ball to whoever is made most available by the defense.
