MAC Basketball Power Rankings: Week 15

This whole conference is a cluster.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Things are changing in the MAC. A week ago, we had Bowling Green and Akron heading up our power rankings, and they both went out and lost both games this week. Meanwhile Kent State,  Toledo, Central Michigan, Buffalo and Miami won both their games this week to move up in the rankings.

Here is how we stand with just two weeks left in the regular season:

Rank Team Record Previously Last Week
1 Kent State 19-8 (10-4) 2 W - Ball State, W - at Ohio
2 Toledo 18-9 (10-4) 4 W - at Akron, W - at Western Michigan
3 Central Michigan 20-5 (10-4) 5 W - Northern Illinois, W - Ball State
4 Bowling Green 17-8 (9-5) 1 L - Miami, L - Buffalo
5 Akron 17-10 (8-6) 3 L - Toledo, L - Miami
6 Buffalo 17-9 (8-6) 7 W - at Eastern Michigan, W - at Bowling Green
7 Western Michigan 16-11 (7-7) 6 W - Ohio, L - Toledo
8 Eastern Michigan 17-10 (6-8) 8 L - Buffalo, W - Northern Illinois
9 Miami 11-16 (6-8) 11 W - at Bowling Green, W - at Akron
10 Ohio 9-16 (4-10) 10 L - at Western Michigan, L - Kent State
11 Northern Illinois 10-15 (4-10) 9 L - at Central Michigan, L - Eastern Michigan
12 Ball State 7-18 (2-12) 12 L - at Kent State, L - at Central Michigan

The top three are clearly playing the best basketball right now, although I think Central Michigan is definitely in the top two. Toledo had the most impressive wins this week and look to be the team to beat heading into the MAC Tournament. Kent State got Jimmy Hall back and is still beating teams they should.

Bowling Green and Akron had rough weeks, both losing at home to Miami. The Falcons and Zips aren't playing good basketball right now, and with it being late February that's the worst time to be struggling.

Buffalo and Miami also had nice weeks, sweeping both games. The RedHawks have won three in a row and could play the role of spoiler in the next two weeks and in the MAC Tournament.

Ohio, Northern Illinois, and Ball State have pretty much shut down for the year. They could spring a first round upset, but they really look like they just want their seasons to be over.
