MAC Tournament open chat: Which two will march onto the quarterfinals?

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

As we progress through the first round of the MAC tournament, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Ball State all had to close out their seasons on Monday. Now, two more will have their trip to Cleveland shortened with these second round games.

6:30 p.m.: (5) Bowling Green Falcons vs. (8) Eastern Michigan Eagles

The Falcons are coming off of a win over the Cardinals without their star forward Richaun Holmes. No official word on whether or not that he'll return and be good to play. We know that he's been preparing as much as he could by participating in pre-game stretches with the teams, but his status is still very unclear. Eastern Michigan is coming off of a big overtime win over Miami at home and won't be missing any of their star players. But they've had problems of their own all season long, but they are 3-0 this month, which is a positive for them. For the disappointment of a MAC season that they've had so far, they have no choice but to ride the high that they're on.

approx. 9 p.m.: (6) Western Michigan Broncos vs. (7) Akron Zips

David Brown absolutely caught fire, putting up 34 points against Ohio after the Broncos got off to a slow start. Akron almost forgot how to basketball in February, but if their quick start on Monday against NIU is any indication of how things will go between these two teams, we should expect a high-scoring affair.

Both games can, thankfully, be seen on ESPN 3.
