The Toledo Rockets (4-6) fell on the road in OT to the Thundering Herd of Marshall (6-3) in a high scoring match 111-105. In a very tight game, in which no team could pull away from the other, was tied at half, tied at regulation, but the Rockets could not come out on top at the end of overtime. No team was up by more than eight points, and both teams shot over 50% from the field. Toledo was at 53.4%, while Marshall shot the lights out and finished at 62.7%. Toledo went to overtime for a nation-high 5th time this season.
Both of Toledo’s stars came to play, with Jonathan Williams leading the way with 28 points and 9 rebounds, and Steve Taylor Jr. adding a career high 27 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor was blocked on a game-winning attempt at the end of regulation, tied at 93-93. Williams fouled out in OT with 3:48 left.
The Rockets left a lot of points at the free throw line, connecting on 16-29 for 55%. Marshall made the most of their trips to the line hitting 18-23 for 78.3%. Toledo out rebounded the Herd 43-30, but lost the turnover battle 14-10.
Nate Navigato added 14 points and Luke Knapke chipped in 11 points 5 rebs for the Rockets.
Marshall was led by Jon Elmore who had a career high 35 points and 10 assists and Stevie Browning with 27 points.
A very entertaining game, but it’s hard to come away with a victory when you let the opponent shoot over 60% from the field. Marshall improved to 6-0 at home, Toledo 1-3 away from Savage. Toledo would look to right the ship December 17 at Savage Arena against 3-5 Southeastern Louisiana.
