The Toledo Rockets began a five-game homestand on the right foot by topping Southeastern Louisiana 78-56. Toledo (5-6) took a 33-26 lead into the half before turning it on in the 2nd half and pulling away comfortably over the Lions (6-5). Toledo took the lead for good with 13:02 left in the first half and never looked back.
Jonathan Williams led the way with 24 points on an efficient 8 of 14 night, including 2 of 2 from deep. Even more efficient was Jordan Lauf who didn’t miss, going 4 of 4 from the field for 13 points. Jaelan Sanford added 15 points, while Nate Navigato chipped in 10 points.
It was a cold outside but the Rockets kept it warm inside Savage especially from the charity stripe, going 23 of 28, for an outstanding 82.1%. SE Louisiana only got the the line 13 times, connecting on 5 for 38.5%. Toledo shot 45.3% from the field, while holding the Lions to 37.7%. The Rockets hit 7 of 14 3’s for 50% and limited SE Louisiana to 33.3% from deep. Toledo won the rebounding battle 41-35 despite missing the MAC-leading rebounder Steve Taylor Jr.
Moses Greenwood led Southeastern Louisiana with 15 points and Davon Hayes had 14.
Toledo has two more games in 2016, hosting Loyola on December 20 and Ohio Christian coming into Savage on December 30.
