The Toledo Rockets defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 89-62 at the Savage Arena Tuesday night. In a game with some high powered offense only Toledo showed up for this one. Nathan Boothe and Jonathan Williams showed why they are one and two in scoring putting a combined 40 points. The Rockets shot 52% from the field, 42% from three and 83% from the line. It was an amazing shooting display that really put this game out of reach in the first half.
Toledo also out rebounded the Broncos 41-20 part due to their high shooting percentage. It wasn't pretty for the Broncos although they didn't shoot that bad at 40% but they also did should over 60% from three. Thomas Wilder had his 9th 20 point game as the young sophomore continues to tear up the MAC. It however did take him 18 shots to get there. I was impressed with Josh Davis's play as the freshman had his biggest game of the year 12 points with four threes. Davis from Detroit Michigan could be another big contributor next year with Wilder on a much improved Broncos squad.
Williams stole the show as his 24 points we're huge for the Rockets. After struggling in Toledo's lost to Northern three games ago he's contributed 60 points in his last three games. He's already passed his career high for a season in points now up to 375 and has nine games to go. Boothe also notched another double double and has continued to keep pace as a potential MAC player of the year candidate. The Rockets we're very impressive from the line making 19 of 23 free throws.
The Rockets take on Kent State on the road in another contest that has more MAC implications. The Western Michigan Broncos move on to Ball State whose in race of their own in the MAC West. We continue to see upsets each week hopefully we're moving closer to figuring out the MAC.
