The Toledo Rockets are a team that’s riding high into it’s match-up with an equally hot Miami RedHawks club as UT has won five of their last six games, including a 86-54 dismantling of the defending MAC champion Buffalo Bulls in their last outing. Toledo has also won its last seven meetings with Miami. Jonathan Williams has been on fire as of late for the Rockets (8-6, 1-0 MAC) as he has dropped 20+ points for seven games in a row while the team has been really good on the boards in 2016-17 with 40 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, the RedHawks (8-6, 1-0 MAC) have seemingly come together after a rocky start to the season as they have won four of their last five and came away with a tough 69-67 victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies in Millet Hall. Despite shooting 10-24 from the free throw line against NIU, the upperclassmen stepped up with Abdoulaye Harouna and Rod Mills Jr. knocking down five treys each, and Logan McClane had a strong showing as well with 14 points off of 7-11 shooting and hauled in nine boards.
This ought a compelling match-up between two team that will be tough outs when MAC Tournament time comes around. One way that Toledo can take control of the game is on the glass, as Miami is not a great rebounding team and the Rockets can exploit that flaw for some second chance opportunities. However, the ‘Hawks have an equalizer with their ability to shoot three-pointers, and if they are able to efficiently score from long range, the Red and White have a chance to win on the road on Saturday.
