After landing a verbal pledge from Wisconsin offensive lineman Rob Pavletich in April, Chris Creighton and Eastern Michigan received their second commitment of the 2015 recruiting cycle on Monday evening, when Cincinnati Colerain standout linebacker Demetrius Colbert picked the Eagles over an offer from Notre Dame College, and serious interest from most of the programs in the Mid-American Conference, including Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Toledo and Western Michigan.
"I told my parents that I was ready to commit to Eastern Michigan, and then I talked to some of my previous coaches. I then told coach (Chris) Creighton. He was very excited. He (Creighton) said his day couldn't get any better. It was his 13th year anniversary with his wife, he moved his kids to Michigan, and he got Demetrius Colbert. I also talked with coach (Todd) Frakes. I love the coaching staff, and how they showed love (to me)."
The 6'0 235 pound senior told Hustle Belt soon after shutting his recruiting process down.
Suiting up for one of the top overall programs in the entire state of Ohio, Colbert is use to nothing but winning. Over the last two seasons, Colerain has went an astonishing 24-2. Last year as a junior, Colbert's 61 total tackles and team leading six sacks helped pace the stacked Cardinals to a 12-1 overall record, and a near State Championship birth.
Unlike Colerain, EMU hasn't had much success on the gridiron over the last couple decades, but with brand new head coach Chris Creighton and his solid group of assistants now at the helm, Demetrius, who plans to major in Business Management once he reaches Ypsilanti, believes the years of turmoil surrounding the Eagles is in the past, and is looking forward to the challenge of helping jump start the program into major contenders.
"EMU in the future will be a powerhouse team and will win a Mid-American Conference Championship" Colbert said. "I want to be the one to change the program around."
