2015 Toledo Football Recruiting: K Jameson Vest Commits To Rockets

Jeremiah Detmer is the best kicker in the MAC. Even if you don't agree, the national media does. But Detmer is a senior and 2014 will make his last year in Toledo. Insert Jameson Vest, a kicker from the class of 2015 who committed to Toledo on June 22.

Vest will be one of a three kickers on the Rockets' roster next season in what should be an interesting race for the starting job. Vest committed to UT over Georgia state and Texas A&M, both of whom had showed interest in the Fairburn, Georgia native.

At 5-foot-10, 198 pounds Vest has a powerful leg with the ability to make 40-yard field goals consistently (at least distance wise). In 2013, as a junior at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School, Vest made a 47-yarder in a game, making five field goals overall and nailing 26 of 29 extra points.

His accuracy isn't spectacular, as evidenced by his just under 50 percent clip on field goals converted in 2013. But the power to get the ball through the uprights is there. Even if he never develops into the field goal threat that Detmer is, Vest could be a nice weapon as a kickoff specialist. In the past two seasons Vest has had a combined total of 36 kickoffs go for a touchback.
