Northern Illinois has been very busy on the recruiting trail this summer and recruiting players who can make plays on the defensive side of the ball seems to be a big focus of this class. The 17th commit of NIU's class, defensive back Adam Buirge, looks to fit that criteria perfectly.
At Park Center High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota Buirge does a little bit of everything. Buirge plays defensive back, wide receiver, and returns kicks as well. Buirge has great speed and runs a 4.43 40 yard dash per his Hudl profile. It will be interesting to see how the Huskies coaching staff utilizes Buirge's speed once he gets on campus.
Buirge is an impressive kick returner and that could be his ticket to early playing time at NIU. On defense, Buirge has good hands and great speed to make up for any mistakes he might make in coverage. Buirge also shows a knack for jumping routes in coverage and forcing fumbles.
Although Buirge is unranked by the recruiting services, he looks to be another solid get for the Huskies quickly growing 2015 recruiting class. Buirge chose the Huskies over an offer from Wyoming and multiple FCS schools such as: North Dakota, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and South Dakota State.
Buirge is the second recruit to make a commitment to the Huskies this week (RB/WR Marcus Jones was the first). Can't wait for Adam to come to DeKalb? In the meantime check out his highlights courtesy of Hudl:
