Miami's recent streak of verbals from running backs continued yesterday with a commitment from Joshua Allen of Charlotte, North Carolina. Allen first tweeted out the commitment himself, and he created a new hashtag: #TheChuckMartinEra. (Between this and "Google my name," we're getting some good catchphrases.)
Allen, who measures at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, escaped the notice of Scout and 247's ratings, but got three stars from Rivals. He helped lead Victory Christian Center School to the Division III finals of the NCISAA playoffs last season. (The NCISAA is the body that oversees independent school athletics in North Carolina and is separate from the NCHSAA.) Allen was also named to the NCISAA's Division III all-state team.
Scout did, however, call Allen a prospect "on the rise," noting his patience, field vision, and his talent for making people miss. And he has the stats to back up those claims: 1,950 yards in his junior season (at a 7.8 yards per carry pace) to go with 18 touchdowns, or 1.5 a game.
Allen is another big get for Chuck Martin and the RedHawks' staff. He chose Miami over offers from Marshall, Ball State, Ohio, and Toledo, plus a few Sun Belt schools and a number of FCS offers. Here, if you're interested, are his junior highlights via YouTube:
