Northern Illinois is on fire on the recruiting trail lately. After just picking up a commitment from 3-star offensive guard Nathan Veloz, the Huskies received a verbal commitment from another offensive lineman, Jordan Steckler.
Steckler is the third offensive linemen in the class of 2015 to verbally commit to the Huskies. All three of these linemen are from the state of Wisconsin. In the past, the Huskies have had success recruiting linemen in the state of Wisconsin and so far NIU has been extremely successful trying to replicate this success.
Steckler, a 6-foot-5 293 pound offensive lineman, chose the Huskies over offers from Air Force and multiple FCS schools. He also received interest from Ball State, Central Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, and Wisconsin.
Steckler is a gritty linemen who looks to be a great under the radar commitment for coach Carey and his staff. Steckler is actually a two-sport athlete for Two Rivers High School, as he is a center on the basketball team. While balancing playing two sports, Steckler is still able to maintain an impressive 3.6 grade point average.
Steckler's exceptional play has not gone unnoticed either as Scout rates him a 3-star recruit and Rivals.com rates him a top 10 player in the state of Wisconsin. In Rivals' top 10 players in Wisconsin list, four of their top ten are verbally committed to Northern Illinois. This is obviously huge for the Huskies and shows their hard work in the state of Wisconsin is paying off.
