Matt Campbell, and the Toledo coaching staff alreay had one of the top 2015 recruiting classes in the entire Mid-American Conference coming into the week. Well, the Rockets recruiting success continued on Tuesday, when two-star running back Arthur Thompkins, picked UT over scholarship opportunities at Buffalo and Indiana.
Thompkins, a soon-to-be senior for Woodland Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the 19th class of 2015 prospect to commit to the Rockets. He is the second running back in the class, joining recent pledge Nevone McCrimmon, who chose UT last week over the likes of Boston College, and Wake Forest.
The future teammates might play the same position, but aren't the same type of player. McCrimmon is more of a true running back at 6 foot, and over 215 pounds, while Thompkins, who stands 5 foot 9, and 175, will probably line up in a number of different ways for the Rockets, just like he does for Woodland Hills on the high school level.
A threat every time the ball is in his hands, Thompkins, who reportedly runs a sub 4.40 second 40-yard dash, could find the field as a running back, in the slot as a receiver, and on special teams returning kicks and punts for UT over the next few years.
According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Thompkins is currently the 152nd best running back, and 1,845th player in the entire class of 2015.
