With the upcoming graduation of Justin March, CJ Mizel, Jon Shelby, and Nick Rossi, linebacker was definitely one of the main positions the Akron coaching staff were looking to secure depth at during the 2015 recruiting class.
Earlier this month Terry Bowden, and the Zips took a huge step in the right direction by locking up a verbal commitment from Governor Mifflin (PA) senior Jan Johnson.
"They have all those amazing coaches, and I just loved the relationship I was able to build with them so quickly." Johnson stated to the Reading Eagle as a couple of the reasons why he selected to continue his football playing days at Akron.
A two-way star on the high school level, Jan is also the starting quarterback for the Governor Mifflin Mustangs. As a junior, the 6'3 210 pound soon-to-be Zip was named First Team All-Burks after being a huge part of a 8-3 season.
Not just a standout on the football field, but also the wrestling mat, Johnson finished last year 44-1, and won the PIAA State Championship for the 195 pound weight class.
With Johnson now the the fold, Akron is currently sitting at five commitments, which includes tight end Trey Dunkelberger, who played his high school ball at Governor Mifflin before ending up at Pierce Community College in California.
