2016 UMass football recruiting: ATH Patrick Volcy commits to Minutemen

Patrick Volcy, a 2016 athlete out of Naples, Florida, has committed to the Massachusetts Minutemen. He officially visited Amherst during the first weekend of December, and his commitment was made official December 18th.

The Massachusetts Minutemen picked up a commitment from Patrick Volcy today, an athlete out of the Minutemen's #1 recruiting grounds in Florida.

Volcy's official commitment today was first reported by the Maroon Musket.

Volcy plays at Golden Gate High School in Naples, FL. We spoke with Volcy about UMass shortly after his official visit was completed in the first weekend of December.

"What really brought me to UMass was the positive vibe and the family like feeling there. It felt like a home away from home," Volcy said.

Volcy will be coming in as a defensive back for UMass, despite the fact that the majority of the film available on him highlights his skills at the wide receiver position. Of the other schools that were recruiting Volcy, Samford was looking at him as a defensive back as well. Appalachian State, UConn, and Mercer were recruiting him as a wide receiver, however Volcy chose the Minutemen over offers from all of them.

Volcy plans on studying sports management while at UMass, which is a good decision as the university is home to one of the best sports management programs in the country. Volcy is also very much looking forward to his time on the field for the Minutemen.

"As a player I wanna leave as one of the best players to come through," Volcy said, "and be a great teammate & leader."
