Toledo finished out another strong recruiting class. However, they almost lost one of their biggest signees the night before National Signing Day.
JUCO wide receiver Darrion Landry is a 3-star receiver who committed to Toledo over reported offers from Akron, Illinois, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, South Alabama, South Florida, and Southern Miss.
In a recent interview with Hustle Belt, Landry talked about his bond with the coaching staff.
"The bond between the coaches, it's unbelievable. I'm on the same page with all the coaches and I'm excited for them to help me get to where I want to be."
Landry was actually all ready to sign with Toledo until the night before signing day when Texas Tech contacted the 6-foot-2 receiver.
"He(a Texas Tech coach) told me that they were going to offer me if it wasn't too late. He said they were expecting some spots to open up and they'd be able to offer me. Texas Tech offered me at the very last minute. After that, I was up for a while thinking about it. Playing in the Big 12 is one of my dreams so I just sat down, prayed, called a few of my friends and some coaches to talk about it. Then, I talked to coach Campbell. He sounded really fired up about me and after talking to him I forgot about Texas Tech. It meant so much for him to call me up and be so fired up about me signing."
Landry is extremely excited about becoming a Rocket and also talked to us about some guys who he is excited about in this 2015 class.
"I'm really excited about Ruben (Carter). Ruben and I have been talking ever since he was in contact with Toledo. I knew Toledo needed some offensive linemen so I just stayed on him and made sure we were on the same page about going there. I'm also excited about Rolan Milligan who I was able to meet when I visited UAB. Rolan was also visiting Toledo at the same time as me so it's great to know that he's actually signed and clear to play."
Toledo fans: Remember the name Darrion Landry, you'll be hearing the name a lot during Toledo games in the near future. Check out his Hudl highlights if you haven't already.
