Earlier this afternoon Matt Campbell, and the Toledo Rockets coaching staff picked up a verbal commitment from class of 2016 defensive back Alonzo McCoy of Lee M. Thurston High School in Redford, Michigan, per recruiting analyst Allen Trieu of Scout.com.
Joining Dayton Chaminade-Julienne defensive lineman Jeffery Pooler in the Rockets class, McCoy, a 5'10 180 pound cornerback had been on the radar of many Mid-American Conference programs before choosing UT on Saturday. Bowling Green, Central Michigan, and Ohio also offered the three-star prospect over the last few months.
With the upcoming graduation of Cameron Cole, Chris Dukes, and other members of the Rocket secondary, UT were searching the recruiting trail high, and low for a shut down cornerback to bring into the fold for next season. McCoy should have no problem in that role, as he is more than use to competing against solid talent on the high school level.
If rankings are your type of thing, McCoy currently comes in as the 108th cornerback, and 1,180th overall prospect in the 2016 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
