Throughout the day, new head coach John Bonamego has been busy tweeting about the Waka Flocka Flame concert that will take place on campus this evening. However, in between tweets and having students awkwardly sing the fight song for free tickets, coach Bonamego was able to land a verbal commitment from DB Jakkar Jackson.
The 5-foot-10 175 pound defensive back chose the Chippewas over listed offers from Ball State, Kent State, and Toledo. He is currently rated a 2-star recruit and a top 40 recruit in the state of Michigan by 247Sports.
During last football season, Jackson caught up with Hustle Belt shortly after visiting Central Michigan in the Fall, and seemed to enjoy his time on campus.
"A few things that stood out was the campus, because when I went to the CMU camp, I really didn't get a chance to see the campus. Also their defense stood out a lot to me during the game. I really feel like their defense works for my skill set at the safety or nickel position. During my visit I watched their game very closely. I think that my skill set could definitely fit in their scheme, by playing coverage on slot receivers, and moving in and out the box."
Jackson currently plays both safety and running back for Farmington High School in Farmington, Michigan, however look for him to play safety/defensive back in for the Chippewas.
Jackson announced his decision on Thursday afternoon from his personal Twitter account.
Proud to announce that I'm committed to Central Michigan University. My dreams are coming true! #FireUpChips #J2 pic.twitter.com/hBi5o4Fb0l

Shortly after his commitment, Jackson talked to Hustle Belt about exactly why he chose CMU.
"It was home and I have a big chance of playing early."
Jackson also has some big goals that he wants to accomplish during his time at Central Michigan. Jackson told us that he wants to "get a degree, win a few bowl games, become an All-American, and enter the draft as a CMU alum."
Jackson is the second verbal commitment for CMU's 2016 recruiting class with DE/TE Josh Eldridge being the other commit. It seems that coach Bonamego and his staff seem to be recruiting the state of Michigan hard.
