2016 Western Michigan Football Recruiting: K Butch Hampton commits to Broncos

P.J. Fleck has put the rest of the country on notice, as he continues to pile up the early commits.

Western Michigan now has more verbal commits than the rest of the MAC Combined. While on an unofficial visit in Kalamazoo, kicker Butch Hampton received an offer and hours later decided to #RowTheBoat and verbally commit to the Broncos.

Hampton chose the Broncos, his first offer, over strong interest from Oklahoma State and Army. According to Chris Sailer Kicking, Hampton is the 5th best kicker in the class of 2016.

Hampton broke the news on his Twitter late Friday afternoon.

Hampton is one of the few kickers who was offered a full scholarship from the start, which is a rare occurrence as most kickers start as a preferred walk-on and work their way towards a scholarship. This could be due to the fact that Hampton has shown the ability to be a successful kicker as well as a talented punter.

After his commitment, Hustle Belt got in contact with Hampton to find out what it was about WMU that made him want to commit.

"The staff and the players honestly. Coach Fleck and Wenger are absolutely unreal."

Fleck has quickly built a reputation as an elite recruiter and the quote above shows further evidence of this.

Hampton also said that he plans to "help put this program out there and make history at Western Michigan."
