Earlier this week, NIU landed their first verbal commitment from defensive tackle Ben LeRoy.
LeRoy visited the Huskies a few weeks ago and seemed impressed with the campus.
Great night at Northern! Thanks!@CoachDiersen

Shortly after his commitment, Rod Carey took to Twitter to show his excitement regarding LeRoy.
Fired up to get a new member of the Huskie Family from our own back yard! #THW16 #Commit2NIU

Shortly after his commitment, Hustle Belt caught up with LeRoy to find out exactly why he chose the Huskies.
"The coaching staff, the players, and the art program were all great."
The 6-foot-3 252 pound defensive tackle currently attends Loyola Academy located in Wilmette, Illinois. NIU was LeRoy's only offer, however LeRoy told Hustle Belt recently that he was also considering Ball State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and North Dakota State before ultimately deciding on the Huskies.
LeRoy is a solid run stopper and clogs up a lot of space on the line. He's yet another under-the-radar prospect to commit to the Huskies. NIU has a nice track record of developing players like LeRoy into solid starters in the MAC, and sometimes much more.
