Bortenschlager currently attends perennial powerhouse Cathedral HS located in Indianapolis, Indiana. He chose the Bulls over offers from Ball State, Colgate, Eastern Michigan, and Western Illinois.
Bortenschlager is currently rated a high 2-star recruit and the 21st recruits in the state of Indiana by 247Sports.
Shortly after his commitment, he caught up with Hustle Belt to discuss his decision.
"I really liked the school when I visited, and the coaches are great guys. It's a great school academically, and Coach Leipold is the winningest coach in college football. The program is definitely on the rise and I'm excited to be a part of it!"
One thing that Bortenschlager and coach Leipold have in common is a history of winning. As a junior, Bortenschlager passed for 2,270 yards and 21 touchdowns while leading Cathedral to the Class 5A Indiana state championship. Cathedral is one of the favorites to defend their state title again this year, thanks in large part to Bortenschlager.
Bortenschlager joins talented linebacker Hosea McMullen in Buffalo's growing 2016 recruiting class. With the quarterback position figured out, look for coach Leipold to try to add offensive playmakers to this class in the near future.
