PJ Fleck and his Western Michigan Broncos staff are working countless nights and days to try to make this happen. Earlier in the weekend, WMU added their now highest-rated commit, Spencer Kanz, bringing the class to 14 commits, currently ranked 28th in the nation by 247Sports.
After losing a few key commits in the past few weeks, it was crucial for these commits to come in to regain the momentum on the recruiting trail. Kanz had some powerful words to share with us after his commitment, calling Fleck the "best recruiter in college football." Western's latest commitment comes from CB Darece Roberson. Allan Trieu from Scout.com was the first to report the news:
Muskegon (Mich.) Mona Shores WR-CB Darece Roberson has committed to Western Michigan: http://t.co/nrfX6BsQDv
— Allen Trieu (@AllenTrieu) June 8, 2015
Roberson currently plays for Mona Shores HS, located near Muskegon, Michigan. He had no other reported offers, but reported interest between him and the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Does this high school seem familiar to those of you that follow WMU football or recruiting? It should. Roberson's HS teammate, WR Hunter Broersma, as well as current Bronco Asantay Brown both are from the HS in Muskegon.
Roberson currently plays both cornerback and wide receiver, but WMU plans on using him in the slot at cornerback once he gets onto campus. At 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, he possesses the type of raw athleticism and awareness that can cover up his size. His highlights show his versatility, which is especially on display when on special teams. While his footwork will continue to improve, it is very difficult to find a recruit with better ball skills than those of Roberson. He is currently unrated according to 247Sports, but as the summer camp circuit begins, and his film begins to gain more exposure, expect that to change.
