Kent State continues to recruit for their 2016 class. Running back Sam Thomas of Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida announced his commitment with his teammates and coach yesterday afternoon. Thomas reportedly held offers from Troy, Florida A&M, Kennesaw State, Georgia State, and Western Kentucky. He currently is listed as a two-star prospect, according to 247Sports' rankings.
We were fortunate to catch up with Thomas to discuss why Kent State was the right place for him. "I chose Kent State because the relationship I have with some coaches and players. What made me commit there is they're a family, and I feel comfortable around the players and coaching staff, and I'm ready to compete as a freshman."
Thomas was a stand out running back and outside linebacker at Leon High School. His top end speed and tackle-breaking ability have caught many scouts' eyes. Kent State is desperately looking for someone to produce in the rushing attack and Thomas could be the piece they are missing. The Golden Flashes were the only MAC team that did not notch 1000 rushing yards in 2014, by finishing dead last with 901 yards on the ground.
Thomas also told Hustle Belt that he plans to be a team leader, impact player, and "make a run to win a title." The 5-foot-11 192 running back is the Golden Flashes' fifth recruit of the 2016 class.
